He imagined himself the star of his very own film. He thought of this morning's walk to school as the big opening sequence where credits flashed across the screen announcing him as the star. He sees himself as Ferris Bueller, Judd Nelson from The Breakfast Club, and Stifler, all rolled into one. This day of school would become the stuff of legend. Something was in the air. Something amazing was going to happen today.
EXTERIOR: WIDE SHOT - JIMMY'S PARENTS HOUSE - EARLY MORNING
Jimmy walks out the front door of his house wearing a jacket, backpack, and headphones.
CREDIT: "Jimmy Roland in…"
CUT TO TITLE: "Jimmy's Big Adventure."
A killer soundtrack accompanies his walk to Walter Cronkite Middle School. Jimmy Eat World is blaring on his Walkman. He steps in time with “The Middle” and thinks about how great it would be if everyone had his or her own personal soundtrack. They would enter a room, and Isaac Hayes would be in the corner leading the band in the “Theme to Shaft”. Whenever a pretty girl entered the room, “Oh Yeah” by Yello would start to play. And when Ms. Anderson walked into fifth period science class, Alex Van Halen's drum solo in “Hot for Teacher” would kick in.
EXTERIOR: MED. SHOT - JIMMY'S NEIGHBORHOOD - EARLY MORNING
Jimmy stops, opens a Velcro pocket on his jacket, and retrieves a pair of cool sunglasses. He puts them on and continues down the sidewalk toward the corner.
JIMMY (VOICE-OVER)
"I knew this day would be unlike any other. I knew it was the start of something special."
Jimmy sees the playground of his old elementary school. He scoffs as he thinks of his days there. It was all such a waste of time; what had he really learned there? The sun is just beginning to rise, and it makes the swings look like gallows. How many children had run through that yard? Thousands? How many of them had grown up to be as cool as he was? None. If anyone deserved to have a film made about their life, it was Jimmy.
EXTERIOR: MED. SHOT - CORNER JIMMY'S NEIGHBORHOOD - EARLY MORNING
Jimmy stands at the corner. He spits and steps off the curb without looking.
JIMMY (VOICE-OVER)
"My name is Jimmy, and this is my story."
A bus comes from out of nowhere and runs Jimmy over. The camera holds on the empty frame for a few minutes, and then pans left, then right. There is no one else on the street.
FADE TO BLACK.
ROLL END CREDITS.
