So I\'ve been holding onto this CD for a month now, constantly putting off doing a review of it. And that\'s funny, because I\'m usually all about music. I always listen to music when I draw, when I\'m cleaning up my office or apartment, when I\'m driving someplace,.. no matter what I\'m doing, there\'s usually a radio blasting my eardrums six ways to Beltones when I\'m doing it. And maybe that\'s why I couldn\'t bring myself to listen to Kill The Messenger until this morning. Maybe my subconscious is an equally enthusiastic music lover, and he refused to allow me to waste my time on such a trite and obnoxious album. Then again, my own musical tastes could be getting in the way. Perhaps my brain is so hard-wired to the electronic crunch of El-P\'s hip-hop productions that I can\'t even make room for more emotional work like that of The Indicators. But that can\'t be true, because I like Sleater-Kinney and Radiohead, easily some of the more EMOtional bands in my collection. I guess I loathe these guys because, for every aspect of their sound, I\'ve heard someone pull it off so much better. The Indicators\' heartfelt lyrics don\'t hold a candle to one verse by Slug of Atmosphere. Their simplistic guitar-rock approach is nothing compared to the minimalistic guitar-rock approach of The White Stripes. They try to rock out with their cocks out on a few tracks, and I just think about how Boss Hog could eat them alive. And The Indicators\' almost-country twang is a fart in the wind when you put it next to any of Ween\'s country-fried tunes.
So I admit, I\'m a bit jaded when it comes to reviewing albums like this. But, considering that I\'ve heard a ton of bands do what The Indicators do, and do it hell of a lot better, it\'s kinda hard not to be jaded.
