Everyone knows Buddy Guy. He is to music what Bob Barker is to game shows. What Andy Warhol is to Pop Art. What Ron Jeremy is to fat, nasty, hairy porno. Well, not exactly like that, but you get my point. On Thursday, March 1st, the blues legend graces the Newport Music Hall. Buddy Guy was making blues music back when your grandparents were twenty-somethings. Born George Guy in Louisiana in 1936, Buddy grew up with influences like T-Bone Walker and Otis Hicks. Now, after nearly 50 years of making music, Guy has become just as legendary a musician as his influences. Likewise, he has influenced many musicians as well. Hendrix, Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jeff Beck have all recognized the significance of his work. If you’ve ever had the chance to catch musicians like B.B. King or Bo Diddley perform live, you know how amazing it is to watch. This performance won’t be any different. And the Newport is a small enough venue to keep the intimacy intact. If you haven’t seen a blues legend play live before, don’t miss this chance.
