From Reign of Fire to The Adventures of Pluto Nash, this summer was one real bitter pill that just wouldn’t go down. But, just when we had given up all hope of seeing a redeeming, thought-provoking film, not one, but two films sneak their way in: The Good Girl and One Hour Photo. In The Good Girl, Jennifer Aniston delivers an outstanding performance as a 30-year-old who hates her life, her job, and her marriage. Her simple world is turned upside down when she becomes romantically involved with a 22-year-old co-worker named Holden. The film has a heavy tone, yet it maintains a great sense of humor throughout. The other film, One Hour Photo, stars Robin Williams in a terrifying performance as Seymour, a middle-aged one hour photo employee who’s become obsessed with a family who’ve been customers of his for the last nine years. Ever wonder if one hour photo employees keep some of the pictures they develop? When you think about it, everyday we trust complete strangers with our lives: with photos, prescriptions, mail, and even our food. That's what this film makes you think about. The best thing about One Hour Photo is that Seymour isn't a villain. The film not only makes you fear what he may do, but it also makes you feel sorry for him. You feel bad for him because you can kind of understand where he’s coming from. And that, itself, is a scary thing.
