CAST ALL ASSUMPTIONS ASIDE, PUT THAT BOTTLE OF JERGENS DOWN, AND PUT THOSE READING GLASSES ON. YOU'RE ABOUT TO READ A CONVERSATION BETWEEN THE NIGHT WATCHMAN, AND ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS PORN STARLETS TO EVER GRACE THE SWEATY SCREEN, GINGER LYNN. BUT THERE'S MORE TO THIS VIXEN THAN YOUR ADOLESCENT MALE FANTASIES. READ ON, AND SEE WHAT SHE'S ALL ABOUT.
Night Watchman: You have a lot of really cool things happening on your website, like the Ginger Picks: Wanna Be A Porn Star? project. How did this come about, how is it coming along, and are you directing the videos?
Ginger: My site has been around since 1995 or so, and I think that it just keeps getting better every day. It's a site that's a little different from many other adult sites out there today in the respect that it's not only naughty and nice, but also tasteful. I've made some great changes recently. And now, with the addition of my newest site, there's even more for everyone. Right now you can log on and vote for the talent you'd like to see, and it's free. We have hundreds of contestants to view. If you click on "Browse" rather than "Random", you can look at and vote for everyone. Women and men. Our first shoot is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles in mid-July. Once the shoot is completed, I will feature a new portion on the Ginger Picks site where viewers can enjoy and vote on the scenes we've shot in non-edited, one hour, raw, hardcore format, with new scenes going up daily. I am producing, directing, and joining in when I get the urge.
NW: What do you think about all the mainstream attention that porn has received recently, with adult stars crossing over to the mainstream, like the Ron Jeremy documentary and the Traci Lords book?
G: Sex is mainstream. Sex and rock 'n' roll have been intertwined forever. Ron Jeremy belongs in jail. And Traci Lords should be ashamed of herself. If there's an ounce of truth in her book, it'll be a miracle.
NW: What is it like to have your own E! True Hollywood Story? Do you feel it was a fair portrayal, or did they over sensationalize your life?
G: Having my own E! True Hollywood Story still seems unbelievable to me. It's strange to see my life story told on national television. To me, I'm still just Ginger Lynn Allen from Rockford, Illinois, who just happened into the adult film industry, had a great time, and is looking forward to what's next in my life. My life is, to me, just that: my life. It doesn't seem so extraordinary. But when I see it on the screen, I realize what a lucky girl I am and how full and wonderful my life has been up to this point. I believe that E! did an amazing job of telling my story, and kept it as fair as they could have. To say they sensationalized it would be unfair. It was, and is, sensational!
NW: Did they ask you if they could make it, or were you just flipping through the channels and found out about it that way?
G: I found out they were doing my life story from a message on my answering machine from, of all people, Ron Jeremy. He told me he had just been interviewed by E! concerning my life story. When I called them to ask about it, they said, "Yes. We're doing your life story, and we would love to have you involved." I decided it would be in my best interest, and the interest of integrity to the story, to be involved. They were kind and fair throughout it all.
NW: Many adult stars talk about being "victimized" by the industry, and only have bad things to say about their experiences. How have you maintained such a positive outlook?
G: Like I said before, I'm a lucky girl. I enjoy my life. I make the best of it every day, and I make my choices (when I have them) based on my hopes, dreams, and aspirations. I am only a victim if I allow myself to be.
NW: Do you think that the industry itself uses and abuses its talent, or do people see themselves as victims and allow themselves to be taken advantage of?
G: Any industry, when allowed, will take advantage of its weakest. Unfortunately, for the most part, it is the American way. It's what we've been taught, and we do what we know. It takes courage to change a pattern. And that's true for the industry and its talent.
NW: Will there ever be a Ginger Lynn book?
G: I've been threatening a Ginger Lynn book for the last decade, and I continue to threaten. I think it'll be much more interesting as my life develops over the next few years. Plus, I don't know if there's room for any truth right now with so much Ron and Traci bullshit flying around. I think I'll go shop for some thigh-high waders later this afternoon just to survive the upcoming poo-poo.
NW: What's the strangest thing a fan has ever sent you?
G: A bible. What's that all about? Sex and religion,.. hmmm. Seems to me war and religion seem to go hand in hand more these days, don't you? Something's way wrong with this picture. I'm gonna stay old fashioned on this subject, and make love, not war. Okay,.. sometimes I'll just fuck.
NW: If you had it all to do over again, would you change anything in the way that you approached your career?
G: I think maybe I would have been a little less vivid, and saved a little more money for those rainy days.
NW: I'm a big fan of Bound and Gagged: A Love Story, and after seeing that movie I truly don't understand why you haven't gotten more mainstream work. Does the label of being an "adult performer" still carry a stigma?
G: Thanks. Bound and Gagged: A Love Story is my favorite mainstream film I've appeared in. When I was the "right age" in Hollywood to break into mainstream films, the public was not as openly accepting to sex and porn as it is today. The stigma was strong until just the past five or six years. But, Hollywood, here I am. Come and get me. I'm now better than ever.
NW: What is your dream role? What directors and actors would you most like to work with?
G: Meg Ryan, Julia Roberts, and Renee Zellweger get most of my dream roles. However, I believe the one I'm supposed to get is still out there. When the time is right and I'm ready, it'll be right in front of me. Who do I most want to work with? Hmmm,.. Johnny Depp. You were talking porn, right?
NW: And, finally, a question we always ask our interviewees: do dogs have lips?
G: Yes! I know this, as I've kissed two of them: Traci Lords and Ron Jeremy. And they both have lips.
