Usually when I do a review of any kind, I try and offer up good points with the bad points. In all honesty, reviews are bullshit and all critics are fucking hacks. Who in the hell am I to say what is good or what is bad? What you should or shouldn’t buy? I am only one man with one opinion. And I can’t even make music. I could not create what the kids of TRUSTcompany have done with their debut disc, The Lonely Position of Neutral (Geffen). I can’t play one instrument. I only sing to myself,.. and poorly, I might add. I have no right to critique anything about this album. But I will say this: If I could play an instrument (preferably bass guitar or drums), or if the Lord blessed me with a singing voice (preferably like Jon Spencer or Beck), I would start a band. And it would be the polar opposite of TRUSTcompany. For me, personally, there is not one redeeming thing about this album. I’ve heard every song before, played by a million different bands. This is the “everyman” of bands. The music is the same throughout, and singer/guitarist Kevin Palmer attempts to belt out every song with the ever famous “hushed screaming” that was so popular in early ‘90s alterna-rock. Think Dishwalla meets,.. oh,.. I don’t know,.. Dishwalla.
Yeah.
I would point out specific titles to the tracks if I could tell them apart. If you have a ton of albums in your collection that all sound alike, or if you’re a huge Dishwalla fan (I EXPECT HATEMAIL!), pick The Lonely Position of Neutral up. If you are fans of bands like the late Rage Against the Machine, Run-DMC, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Kajagoogoo, or any other band for that matter, avoid picking this one up.
But again, what the fuck do I know?
Yeah.
