Ever have one of those days where you wake up screaming in serious fucking pain, because, while you slept, someone snuck into your room, split open every vein in your body, and filled 'em with table salt? That's what "Romper Stomper" feels like. "Romper Stomper" is the first song on the Transplants' self-titled Hellcat debut. It comes out of nowhere with such fierce brutality, you start to like pain. And you ask for more. So the second song, "Tall Cans in the Air", kicks in, and now you're getting the shit beat out of you, bare-knuckle, by a gang of old school Jamaican Rude Boys. They were in the neighborhood to add some Jamaican flavor to the record. Mostly rhythms, and dancehall toasting. Between that, the dirty motor city soul influence (that slips in subtly), and the West Coast G-Funk sound that rolls in here and there, you start to wonder what the fuck kind of music it is you’re listening to. But it must be good, because you keep tapping your toes and singing the choruses, despite the fact that the record isn’t even playing.
You'd be a goddamn fool not to try this one out. It’s not everyday a couple of punk rockers can do something this fucking unique.
