Not since Copland has there been a more realistic look into the life of a cop. Narc is a truly stylized film that will blow your socks off. Jason Patric plays a narcotics officer that needs to solve one last case before getting himself a desk job to keep his family. After a narcotics officer was killed in the line of duty, it's up to Patric and Ray Liotta, a renegade cop with nothing to lose, to find the killers. Narc has all the makings of a classic, like Reservoir Dogs before it. Masterfully acted by both Patric and Liotta, but also brilliantly written and directed by newcomer Joe Carnahan, the film also has some truly talented editing, and some gritty, real-life cinematography. I would not be surprised if Narc ended up being a strong contender in the Oscar race this year. Maybe not Best Picture, but definitely in some of the other categories. This time of year is always nice, because after a summer full of sequels and giant spiders from hell, the real meat and potatoes of the film industry come out for that ever-wonderful Oscar race. Don't get me wrong: shitty movies still find their way to the screen this time of year. Just look at Drum Line and Just Married. I'm just saying there seems to be a little bit of a healthier blend this time of year. But with movies like Daredevil on the horizon, how could we go wrong?
