I\'d never listened to Snapcase before this morning. I\'d heard of them, yeah. I\'d just never picked up an album. But sitting here now, listening to their new LP, End Transmission (Victory Records), I feel like I need to go back and check out everything they\'ve ever made. Over ten years after the band\'s inception, End Transmission is a frighteningly tight album that pours over with the energy and conciseness of a band with experience. From the opening pick and lull of guitars, to the insistent drum line that follows, it\'s obvious that Snapcase is a hardcore act. Thing is, they\'re taking it about ten steps further. They\'re taking that everday \"instruments with vocals\" grind, and elevating it to the next level. This music is hardcore, but I wouldn\'t mass it in with everything else from that genre. No, the sound Snapcase creates on End Transmission is another sort of beast. It lurks somewhere in between the dark, opiate-laced nightmare of Alice In Chains or Tool, and the battle ravaged landscape of sound created by Rage Against The Machine. That sound revolves with whiplash mood and spacial distortion. And, just like RATM, the lyrics here are the true core, spinning futuristic tales of living automatons, Big Brother-esque government control, and the fight to affirm individuality in the face of a \"conform or die\" society. Showing their age with a mature sense of talent, rather than a lack thereof, End Transmission is just another glorious campaign in Snapcase\'s never-ending, worldwide cadence.
