funk: It was a great show and they were cool with letting people video tape it. There was a guy in the middle of the crowd who was taping, but it was all shaky. He'll never be able to watch it without puking.
darby: What did you think of the transition from the TV show to the CD to the live show?
f: I sort of expected a whole band.
d: I was hoping that it would be just the two of them and they wouldn't get too Hollywood with a whole band.
f: I wanted it to be acoustic but I liked how some of the songs progressed to the full band sound on the CD. It sounded great anyway.
d: I’m glad they did it as simple and basic as they did when they were on HBO. I didn't want to see the "new D". I wanted the classic schtick-- just two mics and no lights. It was the same show they had when they were doing stand-up. Even the part where Kyle quit the band worked.
f: I agree. You know what else? I was surprised at the crowd.
d: Yeah. There were some hardcore fans there from all over the Midwest.
f: There were also some there who had no idea what the fuck it was. All they knew was that Jack Black from High Fidelity was there. Some girl next to me had her face twisted up like she just didn't get it. She was clueless on the Flash Gordon opening.
d: They did a great job with the cover songs. They sounded better than most of the concerts I've been to. Better than most bands, period.
f: It was one of the best I've been to also. It was two fuckin’ guys but it was great. They rocked like the Scorpions, “Hurricane” style. I hope they come to Columbus.
