“It’s a unique place to experience and buy artwork. We just try to put work in that we like, and keep people engaged.”
That’s just a brief summary of what the Blue Cube Gallery is, according to co-founders Edmund Gaisie, Nate Lucas, Clint Davidson and Chrissy LoConti. Honestly though, it’s damn near impossible to cram all the necessary description into a few short sentences. With its premiere show-opening during October, the Cube pounced on the Columbus art scene with a stunning new alternative, teeming with fresh ideas and colorful perspectives. November’s exhibition, “Placebo”, is promising to provide a similar kick in the pants. First comes the work of Jeff Anderson. Jeff’s work borderlines on being extraterrestrial graffiti or futuristic religious tapestries. They show lush scenes of galaxies and quasars slamming together with fluid shapes and designs. Second are the pattern-based paintings by David McBride. His work consists of two larger pieces that, from far away, look like a blown up copy of a rigid black on white pattern. Up close, however, you can see the imperfections in the painted line. The third featured artist is Matt Shankman. He’s exhibiting two different styles in the show. One style uses the universal male/female icon painted in hilarious scenes of terrible violence. It’s easy to laugh at them, because you never expect to see these graphic characters depicted in anything quite this interesting. Matt also has work made of pasted together enlargements of acquired images that he unites through flat color. The opening for “Placebo” is during the November 3rd Gallery Hop.
