I always imagined the wrath of God would sound really loud. Oddly enough, I also imagined it would hail from Canada. You can imagine the smirk on my face when I saw Death From Above 1979 live a few weeks ago at Milwaukee’s own Mad Planet. It really was the wrath of God; a pleasant kind of demise. Luckily, the only thing that died was my hearing.

Never before has there been a duo that could induce the kind of energy these two Canucks induce. Jack and Meg only dream about having this kind of stage presence, and up until I saw Death From Above 1979, The Black Keys were the reigning champs.

From start to finish, the set was loud as fuck and goddamn nonstop. The entire crowd seemed to lose control of their bodies, as if this were a rock \'n\' roll revival and The Holy Fucking Spirit was possessing them. The seemingly enormous Jesse F. Keeler manned the over-distorted bass and synths, while Sebastian Grainger sat behind the kit and dismissed the initial impression I had of him at the bar beforehand as being a quiet kid. What came out of his mouth was a voice most modern \"rock\" bands would kill to exorcise.

If you want to see the kind of loud, fast, and out of control missing from the popular rock of 2005, hunt down the next Death From Above show. You’ll never go back to that watered-down radio bullshit again.
