This month I sat down with our good friend Anthony Clark, from TV's Boston Common and Yes, Dear. Anthony opens his soul with this revealing Quick 10.
darby: What’s next for Anthony Clark?
Anthony: I have another year of Yes, Dear to do. We’ve been picked up for 24 episodes for next year. We are the only sitcom from the fall season to make it back. It’s a great feat for us to be one of the lone sitcoms to make it to its sophomore season.
d: Who’s your favorite Simpsons character?
A: It would have to be Homer. He’s the idiot you can’t help but root for. He’s the underdog. It never goes easy for him. He’s also got the greatest sound effects.
d: Extra crispy or original?
A: Original, no doubt about it. Original is the way chicken is suppose to taste. There’s no extra crispy chicken. It’s chemically-induced.
d: Smokey or the Bandit?
A: Who was Smokey? The car, right? No, wait, Smokey was the cop. Well, I have to go with Jackie Gleason. Without Jackie Gleason in that role, it just would never have been the same. That was just one of his latter comedy pieces of pure brilliance.
d: Favorite Muppet?
A: Probably Elmo. When we shot Soul Man in New York, Sesame Street shot in the same studio. So I did some work on a few episodes. I got to play a mailman a couple times and most of my scenes were with Elmo. I like Miss Piggy, too. Just because she’s called Miss Piggy.
d: How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?
A: Now, I don’t want to pretend I know this. I would guess, maybe, 250? I have no idea.
d: Do dogs have lips?
A: No. I don’t think they do. They have jowls. It’s the best part to play with on any big dog. The sides of the mouth, where it hangs down, especially on pit bulls. But be careful. Don’t feed them marshmallows,.. with your mouth.
d: Mr. T or Mr. C.?
A: Mr. C., I think. I would sleep better in his house. There’s just too much ruckus at Mr. T’s house.
d: What CD is in your car right now?
A: Well, I only have six CDs. But the one I like the most would be a group named Coldplay. I’m also into Stevie Nicks’ new one. And I like Nelly, too.
d: Nelly Furtado?
A: No, no. Just Nelly. (singing) “Must be the money! If you want to go and take a ride with me, come sail in the back of a dozey.” I don’t know what a “dozey” is, but I’m sure he could explain it if he were ever in Judge Judy’s court.
d: Favorite movie of all time?
A: Being There, with Peter Sellers and Shirley MacLaine.
