When you think of The Blue Van, think of gritty garage rock putting its arm around folk music and loving it in way that its husband never could.

Fear Before… provides us with an impressive indie/metal album with timing reminiscent of the Deftones, breaking the chaos with melody and vice versa.

FOO FIGHTERS – SKIN AND BONES (RCA Records)
To me, a live acoustic album usually says “We have no new material, and we want your money,” but Skin and Bones actually stands on its own.

JONNY LIVES! – GET STEADY (Eleven Seven Music)
The pop/rock sound of Jonny Lives! provides hooks catchy enough to make a “fuck her and leave her” song (the first single “Get Ready”) sound innocent and innocuous.

VARIOUS ARTISTS – SAW III SOUNDTRACK (Earshot Media)
As a fan of horror movies, it’s awesome to see soundtracks like this that finally include bands that have balls (Slayer, Helmet, Ministry) and play to the tastes of most of their core audience.

LOUD QUIET LOUD: A FILM ABOUT THE PIXIES (MVD Visual)
Chronicling the Pixies on their 2004 reunion tour, Loud Quiet Loud is 85 minutes that proves two things: (1) The Pixies are still better than almost anything out there. (2) The Pixies communicate with each other about as well President Bush does with the American people.

NIRVANA: LIVE TONIGHT! SOLD OUT! (Geffen Records)
If you didn’t see this video when it was originally released on VHS in 1994, prepare yourself to be overcome with the supreme awesomeness that lies within, as the DVD showcases almost every noteworthy interview and performance from the Nevermind era.
