ORGY: Where can you combine hardcore, synth-pop, metal, and sci-fi in perfect unison? At the Orgy show last month! Alien Ant Farm, Spineshank, and Orgy performed a killer show at the Newport. AAF blasted off with their unique style and child-like antics. Along with their cover of “Smooth Criminal,” they ruled the beginning of the show. Spineshank, and their mind-drilling songs, churned the pit into a sweat-soaked frenzy. This loyal bot got his fair share of kicks and hits. But I’m used to it, because Wayne beats me all the time. At the end of the night, the beautiful boys of Orgy took the stage with their glowing guitars and shimmering make-up. (growl) They sent out hits from their new album and a few old classics, which seemed to go on forever. After weakening the knees of the girls in the crowd (and mine), they vanished. I'm telling you for your own good, if you get a chance to catch these space kids, do it. I'm not asking. I'm ordering. wayne will touch me again if you don't. So, please, if you have a heart, don't let him hurt me again.
S.P.O.C.K: The Swedish spaceband S.P.O.C.K has sent their newest transmissions out in a new CD, 2001: A S.P.O.C.K Odyssey. Android, Crull-E and Yo-Haan have had yet another blast-off breakthrough following their last archived transmission, 1999. "Next in Line" is a creepy, sad tale of alien abduction and disbelief. Then there is the life energy-pumping "Reactivated," a killer opener that slams you straight into “Where Rockets Fly," their first single and radio hit. Any Douglas Adams fan will love "End of the Universe." Android contemplates the universe at a nice little restaurant. There is much more circuitry between tracks and the interaction carries you through time and space, from one track to the next. You will smirk, sing, smile and sob.
