As most of you already know, the days of Napster (or “Heroin,” as I like to call it) seem to be numbered. Thanks to assholes like Hilary Rosen from the Recording Industry Association of America, and the girls from that band that starts with an ‘M’, free music as we know it is in jeopardy. However, there are things you can do to make sure your voice is heard. First off, visit riaa.com. This is the Recording Industry’s official website and you can email them directly from it. What you have to say won’t change their opinion, but at least you can voice your anger. Right next to these morons is stopnapster.com. This site is hilarious. It’s run by a band that no one has ever heard of. They, for some reason, think it is important to shut Napster down. I think this site is pretty funny because the only chance that these guys had at getting their music heard was through a service like Napster. Now they’ve screwed themselves and are destined to a life-long career in food service. You can also contact these twits from the site. On the side of the Napster junkie is proboards.com/napster. Here you can sign petitions against the RIAA and there is a postboard to leave your opinions on for all to view. There is also a cool offer on there for FREE Anti-RIAA stickers. All you have to do is send a self-addressed stamped envelope. And lastly, if the end does come for our friend, fear not. This may be the end of Napster, but it’s not the end of free music! Visit gnutella.wego.com, imesh.com, aimster.com, audiogalaxy.com or freenet.sourceforge.net for similar programs. The selection might not be comparable to that of Napster, but as more people leave they will come to these sites. And they’ll bring their MP3s with them. Lastly, if any hackers know how to get into sites and fuck them up without getting caught, I would love to see the ‘M’ band’s site get torn apart from the inside out. Long live stealing!
