An underground organization of crime fighting custodians; a super-potent strain of cocaine; a big bootied lawyer getting dissed by her fuck buddy; the ever mystical element of martial arts. Are these the key points to the plot of Hidden Weasel, Crouching Blow Fiend? Of course not. It’s the Stovetop Stuffing inside Askarihodari, the latest comic work from artist/writer Glenn Brewer. In Askarihodari, you follow the exploits of Dietrick Romellus and Haki Townsend, two members of the aforementioned underground organization who have sworn to use their hyped-up karate funk to protect the dirty little city of New Buscoll from the dope passers and rapists that threaten to destroy it. What’s more, the pair has to do it all while maintaining really shitty day jobs. It’s got something to do with staying humble. This book’s got all the bases covered. It touches on everything from inter-class level relationships to the ruthless slashing of Bible reading prostitutes. There’s even a five panel cameo by the legendary Joe Brooks (master caricature artist and star of the hit independent video release, Joe Brooks’ Asshole). Oh, and I almost forgot about the dirty mag reading, meat wrangling coke dealer-- a sticky customer indeed. It’s obvious that Brewer put a lot of time into getting his character designs down. He also utilizes a refreshing black and white technique that resembles the look of woodblock prints. If anything, the book is worth checking out for that alone. That, and to find out what the hell Askarihodari means! I’ve read the book twice and I’m still not sure! To get your own copy (and translation) email them at askarihodari@hotmail.com.
