This band and another famed Columbus band, Pretty Mighty Mighty, should hook up and go on tour. Both bands represent a population of kids from the Buckeye State who don’t like to watch football and drink beer. When the very first track (“It’s a Message”) on Again Cast In began playing, I thought for sure that I’d accidentally put in my latest Built To Spill record. But I hadn’t. Then the second track began playing and I surely thought I’d put on my Belle and Sebastian record. Nope. Wrong again. It’s true that their album neatly fits into the sensitive rocker category, but it offers a nice range as well. The album doesn’t come off like one drawn-out song. The third track, “Snowmonsters”, is a nice dreamy song that makes you wish you had a girl. Then the album goes right into “Lost”, which starts off heavy, reminiscent of Dinosaur Jr., then makes you feel like you’ll never have a girl. Don’t get me wrong here: the lyrics are not entirely girl-heavy, but the music does have a hopeless romantic twinge to it, making it an instant favorite in my collection. The change in tempo comes with track six, “When There’s Nothing”, and the rest of the album finishes off fairly up-beat. If you like any of the other bands I’ve mentioned in this article, it’d be worth your time and funds to pick up a copy of Tiara’s Again Cast In.
