It was the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a filmmaker was stirring not even,.. Ron Howard?!? Ron Howard’s The Grinch, to be exact. And that’s the way you need to think of it: Ron Howard’s Grinch; not Dr. Seuss’. As movies go, The Grinch is a fun family film. It’s amazing to see the book come to life on the big screen. The make-up effects of Rick Baker are so realistic, they’re mind-blowing. You might remember Rick Baker from his earlier work on An American Werewolf in London. And yes, Clint Howard is a sexy Who bitch in this film, too! Jim Carrey’s performance as the infamous Grinch is great, but we’ve seen it all before. From the animated moves of the Mask to the ass showing of Ace Ventura. He even uses the ruff and gruff voice of Tony Clifton's character from Man on the Moon. The biggest problem with The Grinch is that they took a 15-page book, a half-hour cartoon, and turned it into a two-hour movie. There is a lot of room for embellishments in the movie, and that can only be expected from Hollywood. That’s why I think it’s important to remember that this is just Ron Howard’s version of an American classic. There are over 20 different versions of A Christmas Carol. Dr. Seuss, or you for that matter, may not be pleased with this new version of The Grinch, but keep in mind that it is just a different version of a holiday classic. It's not my favorite version of The Grinch, but I still liked it.
