Starting your own zine is not that big a deal. Starting one to provide an open forum for other people’s creative expression, however, is. And unless you are one of those rare birds who choose to put forth the guts so others may have the glory, you’d be damn stupid not to submit work. Wilmington, Delaware’s tric is one of those independently-owned and operated forums. tric was established by Casey Grabowski (who also spends time playing in the band Change) as a reaction to “a severe lack of artist community.” The zine, Grabowski hopes, will “let the outside world see what Northern Delaware and greater Philly has to offer,” and vice versa. The free, bi-monthly, 24-page publication really is an open forum. With the majority of content being submissions from others, tric runs one hell of a gamut: poetry, editorial, band interviews, CD reviews, and artwork. Ads for everything from record labels and radio stations, to as yet unknown talents and other zines pepper the pages (and, more than likely, help pay printing costs). It’s an interesting assemblage of material worth a read. And hell, submitting could get you published. All it takes to get a copy bi-monthly is a simple email.
