One thing I love: Free stuff.
Another thing I love: Free stuff to read.
A third: Cool free stuff to read.
Three is the magic number. And Hollis, a San Diego, California-based design house hit it right on the head. They sent me one of the coolest promo pieces I've ever received: a packet filled with pieces, plus a free copy of "the smallest magazine on the West Coast and quite possibly the entire planet." No lie. This thing is smaller than a housefly's pocket watch. But let's start at “Go”, like good little Monopo-Lees. Their kit and kaboodle came in a cool static shield bag, which numerous, resourceful young Jedis have informed me is what computer chips are sent in. There were tear sheets with print and multimedia portfolio pieces on them, and others showcasing their slick logo design skills. There were some small stamp-like things, two dope postcards (one with an elephant on it, which is the quickest way to my blue-shirted heart), two teensy page holders bearing their heavy "H" logo, and two copies of the planet's smallest magazine. Presents galore! The zine itself is laid out by true pros, which is always a critical eye's blessing. And it has everything from music reviews, to samples of their handicraft, to stories about cool spaces in cool places. You can get a free copy for yourself by nosing around hollisdesign.com. And if you're smart, you'll check out their portfolio, too. Dig it!
