A little bit of the old punk rock style, complete with lead vocals that sound like they have to pass through vocal chords made of barbed wire, followed through with simple, steady percussion. Hot Water Music is a nice variation of a classic theme. This is the type of band that sold out, pop kids like blink-182 only wish they were. This band is the real thing. How is it that I know this? There is a simple integrity to the music that is incontrovertibly sincere. These guys aren't writing every song with the idea of making it into an MTV video. They write their songs to power through energetic rhythms, that are sure to incite crowds to bounce themselves off the walls of small, intimate venues. Lyrically, Hot Water Music is a mix of standard punker fight anthems, with some other more illusive and illustrative songs. All in all, though, the feel of the music is consistent throughout the album. Listening to it, you won't be able to keep yourself from pumping your head back and forth in time with the beats. Thematically, the band is powerful. You'll want to run outside and yell at everyone that they're being subdued by the system. You'll scream at the top of your lungs, "I can see the writing on the wall!" I would say that fans of bands like Fugazi and old Social D should check out this band. But you fuckers can sometimes be so loyal to the ideal of punk that you're completely close-minded. For those of you who can live life without the blinders of scene-devotion, give Hot Water Music a listen. You'll be glad you did.
