VARIOUS ARTISTS - A SANTA CAUSE: A PUNK ROCK CHRISTMAS

Ho, ho, ho! Or do I mean, \"Oi, oi, oi?\"
It will soon be that time of year again, when emo and punk rock bands everywhere come together and make an album to help children in need. A Santa Cause is a mix of original Christmas tunes and old time favorites, all by bands like MXPX, blink-182, New Found Glory, Matchbook Romance, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and so many more.

MOS DEF - THE NEW DANGER

The New Danger is a lot of things that I’m not really going to mention, because it really doesn’t matter. They’re secondary reasons why you should listen to this album. All that’s really important is the one major reason: the record is genuinely inspirational. That alone should make you spin this in your player. I mean, when was the last time you listened to an album that was actually inspiring? That’s what I thought.

RACETRACK - CITY LIGHTS

When I was about 13, I went to bible camp with my church for a weekend. We stayed in cabins, played games, went to service, and lit candles for God or some junk like that. One night, we were surprised with a performance by a Christian rock band called Vision, who performed songs like \"He Created Me\", \"Saved By Faith\", and some other creepy, religious, Jesus-lovin\' crap.

PUNK ROCK HOLOCAUST

This past summer, I went to the Warped Tour. It was cool, but there was a strange sort of sadness in the air. I couldn’t really figure it out. Then I got this DVD in the mail: Punk Rock Holocaust, the latest film from director Doug Sakmann. That’s when everything started making sense. That’s also when I thanked my lucky stars and garters that I didn’t attend the year before.

ANTHONY KIEDIS - SCAR TISSUE

Anthony Kiedis’ Scar Tissue might be the best book I’ve read in three or four years.
Yeah... never in a million years did I imagine I’d ever type that out. But I mean each and every word of it. Scar Tissue is an amazing read. I chalk that up to Kiedis\' ability to tell a story, and tell it well. He could spend 300 pages talking about unfolding a brown paper grocery bag, and it would read like the most compelling piece of literature you’ve seen in five years.

THE ONLY CHILDREN - CHANGE OF LIVING

I had heard of but never actually heard the now-defunct band known as The Anniversary. But when I read a press release that said The Anniversary was a \"...more substantive band in the category called \'emo\',\" I got shivers. Whiny white boy music is not my bag. So when I read further down the press release and noticed that The Only Children was fronted by the former frontman of The Anniversary, Josh Berwanger, pure dread crept into my heart.
