Well, in the sprit of my favorite holiday (aside from St. Patrick's Day), Halloween, I thought I would review Steve Oedekerk's latest Thumb featurette, Frankenthumb. I now wish I hadn't! This was,.. let’s see,.. bad just doesn't seem to do it justice. How about God-awful? Yeah. God-awful sounds about right. I'm not kidding. This was that bad! This is the seventh installment of Oedekerk's Thumb featurettes, his first being the hysterical Thumb Wars. If you want to see what Frankenthumb should have been like, rent Thumb Wars. Here's the thing: I'm a fan of Steve Oedekerk, and I thought Kung Pow! Enter the Fist was brilliant. This is why it was so painful to watch Frankenthumb. There was not one funny thing in the entire 32-minutes. Not one! That’s fucking sad. It's only 32-minutes! Now, on the bright side, Oedekerk didn't direct this piece of shit. But he did write it, and is the only one we can blame for this thing seeing the light of day. I hate to say it, but I think the whole Thumb thing is done. It was fun while it lasted, but all good things must come to an end. Except for Police Academy movies. They just never seem to get the hint. If you want my advice, do yourself a favor and rent Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein. You'll thank me later.
Here a list of “Halloween” films Darby approves of: An American Werewolf In London, Alien, Aliens, The Blair Witch Project, Dark Crystal, Dead Alive, Donnie Darko, Evil Dead 2, The Exorcist, Frailty, Halloween, Jacob's Ladder, Nightmare Before Christmas, The Ninth Gate, The Omen, The Others, Pumpkinhead, Scream, Session 9, Sleepy Hollow, and last, but not by any means least, The Shining. I hope you all have a great Halloween!
