INTERESTED IN WINNING A COPY OF THE GUNS, GOD AND GOVERNMENT DVD, AUTOGRAPHED BY MARILYN MANSON? YOU ARE? I THOUGHT SO. WELL, HOP ON OVER TO OUR CONTEST SECTION (LABELED "WIN FREE SHIT"), AND ENTER TO WIN! ISN'T THAT HOT? AREN'T WE NICE?
I saw Marilyn Manson play once. It was 1994, and they were in the night’s line-up with the Jim Rose Circus and Nine Inch Nails. This was before the make-up, the contact lenses, or rumors of missing ribs. There were no intricate sets or costumes. No naked girls with horse heads pulling Manson onto stage riding in a chariot. No American flags on fire, bashing of instruments, or video screens filled with disturbing images. At that time, it was just some guy named Brian’s band. He was friends with Trent or something. His only gimmick was a giant black dildo that he’d wear and make other bandmates suck. The music was great, and we were getting into it. But he called us all “faggots”, so we booed him. The band got pissed and left early. Big deal. We’ll never hear from them again, right? Wrong. Now, nearly a decade later, they’re still around. And not only are they still going strong, but they’re an ever-changing entity. Manson has come a long fucking way since his days of being known as “Trent’s friend’s band”, and they prove it with their new DVD, Guns, God and Government World Tour. The disc follows Manson on tour, and the performance footage, comprised of 17 tracks, is a beautiful collage that depicts what it’s like to see these guys live. And as if that weren’t enough, the half-hour documentary on the tour itself is amazing. Want to see Manson get his knee torn open? Or more tits than you’ll ever see on a Girls Gone Wild video? Or a transvestite piss in a bucket? Then buy this DVD now. Seeing all of this now, I feel like I was fucked out of seeing something really amazing in ‘94. I’ve passed on seeing these guys again since then. But never again.
