Okay. I've got a confession to make: I don't know the difference between emo and post-punk. The difference between acid house and trance means nothing to me. (Put away those glow sticks, kids-- I'm sure it's all great.) You know what, I don't really care to know what these classifications mean. I know what I like when I hear it. The music I like has never been segregated into its own little section in the record store, anyway. Further Seems Forever might be one of those bands that if I was allergic to terms like “emo” or “post-punk”, I might have missed out on. Further Seems Forever at first may remind you of Ours, The Get Up Kids, and even At The Drive-In. They have a sound that might seem similar to those bands, but there is something else going on. It's not a rip-off of those bands, like so much of the stuff that came out this past year-- it's a step forward. It's improving on the original. One of the best things about this band is the vocals by Jason Gleason. Gleason replaced Chris Carrabba when he left to do Dashboard Confessional, and it's Gleason's range and emotion that make this band so strong. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the fine cover art by Dave Rankin. Much like the band, Rankin's art may remind you of Dave McKean or Kent Williams, but he's got his own distinct flavor, and is worth checking out.
