CAP'N BOOTY'S TOYBOX

Playsets are always important to spice up an action figure line. I mean, come on-- do you really want your action figures to just stand there on the shelf doing nothing? Hundreds and hundreds of little eyes judging you, mocking you. Of course not! You have to give the buggers something to do. Well, no one makes a better playset than Palisades Toys, and their latest Muppets set is their ultimate achievement: the Swedish Chef’s Kitchen. This thing is goddamn-stick-a-spoon-in-your-Jell-O-and-jump-over-the-moon fantastic! Not only does it come with a great action figure of the Swedish Chef, it is an absolute marvel of craftsmanship. The sculpting and design is just terrific. There are lots of cabinets to open, and a huge refrigerator with highly detailed interior shelves. Even an old-style stove with opening doors. If that wasn’t enough, the set is meticulously painted for a mass-produced playset. Everything from the sink fixtures to the tiled floor is remarkably accomplished. The paint is so well-done, in fact, that the owners of Palisades Toys should either be given the Nobel Peace Prize for radically changing the way toys are created, or be publicly executed for forcing some small village in Taiwan to paint all these things. As surprised as I was at the quality of this set, the number of accessories included completely blew me away. Almost 40 different items. Everything you would need in a real kitchen, with a few Muppet touches-- my favorite of which has to be the monkey wrench and carpenter saw. No self-respecting kitchen would be without them! The set is perfect. The only problem I have is with the chef himself. The figure is well-done, but he has pudgy Muppet hands. I know it’s being nitpicky, but he should have human hands! There’s just something really disturbing about a stuffed toy with human hands preparing food. His hands aren’t terrible, but just a small touch like that could have made the figure that much better. Hand problem aside, this is the best damn playset I have ever seen. Even if you have just a slight interest in the Muppets, you owe it to yourself to pick this up. At only $35.00, it won\'t be around very long.
