Sometimes the first song on a disc serves as a sign post; a preview of what\'s to come. Think about the opening sounds from Dark Side of the Moon. The tribal groove of \"Up The Beach\" from Jane\'s Addiction\'s Nothing Shocking. The first song sets the mood; it describes the world you\'re about to experience. Sometimes, though, it\'s a caveat. In the first few minutes of Mind Over Mind by 6gig we are treated to the lyrics, \"Sometimes I don\'t talk because I don\'t want to/Sometimes I just have nothing to say\". And that says it all. 6gig has nothing to say. Cookie cutter lyrics and the same generic guitar riffs that we\'ve heard from every other mediocre band out there. You know the one; the \"I Wanna Be The Foo Fighters\" sort-of-metal, sort-of-punk, definitely-crap hybrid. But that\'s not the worst of it-- once those vocals come in, watch out! It\'s like the reincarnation of Alfalfa. I never thought it was possible to hit a note both flat and sharp at the same time. Impressive! Walter Craven screeches, and his voice cracks when he attempts to hit notes that are simply out of his range. Couple that with not being able to sing in time with the music, and you\'ve got a band killer. You\'ve probably heard a dozen local bands that can write better material than 6gig and are more original. Do yourself a favor: spend your hard-earned cash on them. They probably have something to say.
