If Rjd2’s debut LP, Deadringer, is the most delicious cheeseburger your ears have ever eaten, then The Horror is that same damn cheeseburger, only now it\'s topped with bacon. As we all know, bacon is that little something different that keeps the delicious going. And The Horror is just that: a different kind of delicious.
But it ain’t a cheeseburger, crackheads. It’s a remix album of sorts. An EP with some of those, and a few new things. Like “Bus Stop Bitties”, which is a soul-food menu set to the usual Rj soul-beat bliss. Some of the compositions, taken from Deadringer, are spun anew, and fresh-like. “Final Frontier” gets a lyrical visit from Murs, Blueprint, Aesop Rock and Vast Aire-- four MCs you shouldn’t sleep on, unless you like listening to boring hip-hop. “Ghostwriter” gets ghost-remixed, and a little more playful. And “June”, one of my favorite songs from the last few years, travels an even more somber road.
Like most really good cheeseburgers (You like how I tied it all together, don’t you?), this one’s a double-decker. Two discs. The second one’s a CD-ROM with some rockin’ live footage that will make you cry for having missed it (Featuring Murs, Aesop, and El-P, whom Debbie and I think is the absolute shit!), an animated video I ain’t too crazy about, and a documentary on the making of Rj’s first video, which makes you hungry for the finished product. If you ain’t a chump, and like to feed your ears well, buy this disc. But if you’re a bitch, spend your money on Nelly instead.
