Even though most tastes like chicken readers proudly can't read, I'm recommending a damn book series! Currently, I'm in the middle of experiencing the hard-boiled adventures of star writer for the popular Cleveland-based teen magazine Youth In Asia, Billy Chaka! Never heard of him? Fuck, gang. That's what I'm here for. That, and sensual ass massages.
There are three Billy Chaka novels out so far, all by creator Isaac Adamson. The first one's called Tokyo Suckerpunch. C'mon. How can you resist a book with a title like Tokyo Suckerpunch? If that wasn't enough, the cover is brightly colored with a big-ass fist knockin' you upside your damn fool head! I zipped through this goofy, pulpy, Japanese pop culture obsessed book like I was eating pancakes. Yes, it's a good, quick read. Chaka is assigned to cover the Under-19 Handicapped World Martial Arts Championship in Tokyo. He also has to solve the murder of Sato Migusho, director of movies like Sex Up the Hotrod, Baby.
Still not interested? Jaizus H. Kizuriste, man! He takes on the Yakuza 'n shit ta' boot! And it's told with a fairly straight face, making it all the more amusing!
The second book is Hokkaido Popsicle. Not as catchy a title, but still fun, and it has another cool, pop art cover! I just finished this one. Chaka's mixing it up again in Japan. He's been sent by his editor on a forced vacation after punching the director of an inaccurate, unauthorized movie of his life called Wild Man For Geisha. He ends up at a hotel called Hello Kitty, with kittens in every room. His first night there, a night porter dies in his room, leaving a mysterious clue that ends up connecting him to Yoshi, lead singer for Saint Arrow, Japan's biggest rock band, who also dies that same night. This ends Chaka's vacation, as he's assigned to cover Yoshi's death. This results in him messing with mobsters turned record execs, old Swedish strippers, mad scientists, and mute DJs. Good stuff.
There's a third one, Dreaming Pachinko, that I happened across whilst at a Barnes & Noble that one of my ex-girlfriends, who is now a lesbian, works at, while I was browsing there with my latest ex-girlfriend, who keeps getting cuter to me after we've broken up, though they didn't run into each other until weeks later, oddly enough. They're both better off-- uhhh-- anyway!
I'll be sure to pick up Dreaming Pachinko once I sell some plasma for cash! I recommend you do, too. Pick up the book, I mean. Selling plasma? Depends on how strapped for dough you are.
