You know, with an EP name like Pink on Pink, you’d imagine a CD full of slurping, burping, and all the other wonderful sounds that show up when girls stop being polite, and start eating each other out. You’d kind of expect the band that made this CD to either be a band full of hot girls who like girls, or a band full of guys who are girl-on-girl enthusiasts. You’d get neither.
The Fever look a group of guys who might have tried out for the role of “Darlene’s boyfriend” on Roseanne some years back. And they rock like a bunch of dudes who went to England and swallowed some New Wave drugs. Lots of crunchy guitars, blipping and bleeping organ, and spazoid drum licks. Put this baby on vinyl and watch it travel back in time to Molly Ringwald’s Pretty In Pink-era record collection.
You can bet your sweet bippy that this style of music ain’t my bag, but that doesn’t mean I can’t smell something good when I hear it cooking. Did I just say that? Oh, man,... Look, compared to all the bands out there rekindling America’s on-again/off-again romance with Eighties-sounding pop, these guys seem to have nailed it. And Wayne’s convinced their cover of Sheila E.’s “Glamorous Life” is awesome.
If you’re even remotely hip, which I am not, check em out at thefeveronline.com. Otherwise, you’ll wind up an ugly, red-haired, Menudo-loving freak like me.
