HOLLYWOOD, CA - After a heated legal battle that’s been going on since March 2002, famed Hong Kong movie director Ang Lee has acquired the rights to produce and direct a live-action Bananaman film. Adapted from the popular 1983 British cartoon, Lee has made public his first casting decision.
“Playing the roles of both Bananaman and his alter-ego, Eric Twinge, will be Hulk star Eric Bana,” Lee announced, through a team of high-priced translators.
“This is the role Eric was born to play,” Lee’s translators continued. “During the filming of Hulk, I noticed that Eric had a serious problem remembering his character’s name. Jennifer Connelly would say, ‘Bruce, are you okay?’ and Eric would just sit there with a blank look on his face. But we should be able to avoid the problem in Bananaman. When his sidekick, Crow, says ‘Quick, Eric, we’ve got to do something,’ Eric will know that the crow is talking to him. I imagine that he will learn to respond to his cues as Bananaman much quicker as well. You know, Bana/banana,.. he’ll figure it out.”
Casting choices Lee is considering for supporting roles include Edward Norton as Eddie the Gent and Russell Crowe as Crow. When asked how Bana would respond to points in the script where Eric is supposed to eat a banana, Lee declined to comment.
