SOFIA, BULGARIA - A nation mourns today, as a national treasure has passed away. Bulgaria’s sole astronaut, Peter Paroshi, 42, passed away today after nearly 13 years in orbit.
The country’s space exploration program was started in early 1990 when the country held great aspirations for reaching the final frontier. Paroshi was put into orbit, but was never able to return to the planet he loved so dearly.
"We simply do not have the technology to bring a spacecraft back down," said President Georgi Paranov. "It was an oversight our men simply did not think about. Everyone was too excited about sending someone into space to compete with the Americans."
For the last decade, the country has been launching an assortment of sweet fruits, delicious baked hams, and bottles of water into space to sustain Paroshi until the mathematical equations could be worked out by the nation’s top scientists. Authorities speculate that Paroshi’s demise was a result of Polish cosmonaut Misha Kiev’s insatiable appetite for delicious baked hams.
