Q: How many emo kids does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Emo kids don't change shit.
Right off the bat, Wayne said this was crap but that I might like it. Initially, I kind of did. But then I was distractedly listening to it, and at one moment I thought to myself, "Why am I listening to bad Neutral Milk Hotel?" Then, maybe a song later, I thought, "Oh man. Another band trying to sound like Sunny Day Real Estate."
The singer of The Story Of was straining his vocal cords to sound as whiny as possible, making it sound like Sunny Day Real Estate. But all those old emo bands are part of a past I don't want to revisit. It makes sense to emulate what's been done before, but you have to make it your own. Some songs were inventive in some keyboard parts, but overall just done really poorly.
I did give this album another shot when I could give full attention to it, but it still just made me want to puke.
