These guys have been doing their thing since 1978, and have worked with everyone under the sun. The new album has Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) on drums, and Andy Gill (Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Jesus Lizard) producing, so how bad can it possibly be?
At first, I was extremely curious to hear this second self-titled Killing Joke album,.. but then it started to play. My second mistake was listening to the whole thing,.. three times!!! I had to be sure it was really that bad.
The first three songs are downright painful to listen to, but it does get a little bit more tolerable if you can make it past them. Don't get me wrong-- the production is great, and there is some good drum stuff and a few cool guitar riffs. But, other than that, it was hard to stay in the same room with it while it played.
All in all, the closest this album comes to highlights would be "Seeing Red", "Wardance", and maybe "The House That Pain Built". The rest is just kind of there. I don't care what anyone says, no matter how hard you try, you just can't polish a turd.
