HOLY SHIT! Living Colour is back! If you just said, "Who’s Living Colour?" or "You mean the TV show?", get the fuck out of my house! I mean it!
Back in the day-- yeah, I can’t believe I just typed that either-- Living Colour was one of my favorite bands. I remember many a time hanging out with my friends, listening to Vivid, thrashing around wildly to "Cult of Personality" or "Elvis is Dead" from Time’s Up.
For a band that had that much of an impact on a person, how could they possibly live up to the mental idea I have of them? How could they make an album that could ever come close to meaning that much? Well, I don’t know how,.. but Living Colour has done it.
Their disc is called Collideoscope, and it’s like they never left us at all, combining all the rock, jazz, and funk just like they always did. The message is still there, the voice is still there, and the music is still there.
From strange covers (AC/DC’s "Back In Black" and The Beatles' "Tomorrow Never Knows") to the eerie "Flying" (which gives me goose bumps every time I hear it), Living Colour have made a hell of a great album. The only gripe with the disc is song number three, "Operation Mind Control", which just goes on and on. I understand what they’re trying to do-– but it’s just not good. So, as your lawyer, I suggest you make a copy of the disc when you first buy it, and "accidentally" leave off this tune.
The rest of the album? Pure gold. It makes me feel like I never lost Living Colour at all.
