Roorback is a strange new beast from the sick minds of Sepultura. I must admit that since the departure of Max Cavalera, I haven’t kept up with the band the way I should have. This disc makes me want to go back and check out what I’ve been missing.
The raw power of this album throbs and threatens to shake the bolts from my car’s frame. An aggression that is both alien and yet comfortably familiar. The riffs remain the same destructive force they’ve always been, while Derrick Green’s voice strikes a new chord in your brain. You also get killer cover art from Derek Hess. Add to this the extra disc of covers, and you’ve got one hell of a combo. Sepultura covers U2’s "Bullet the Blue Sky", Massive Attack’s "Angel", Jane’s Addiction’s "Mountain Song", and Public Enemy’s "Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos". Brave choices to say the least. While not always successful, you’ve got to respect the balls it takes just to attempt some of these tunes.
The new Sepultura defies the confines of Brazilian metal, while still giving the fans what they need.
