Christmas time is here at last. That magical time of year when young children anxiously await the big man to deliver loads of wonderful presents,.. and the desperately lonely finish off a 48 oz. bottle of discount vodka while fashioning a homemade noose made out of frayed extension cord and broken dreams.
Yes, it sure is the most wonderful time of the year, and nothing has ever personified it quite like the movie A Christmas Story. So put down that cord, you fat pathetic waste of life, because now you can relive Ralphie’s desperate Christmas attempt to bear arms any time you want, thanks to Neca’s new line of A Christmas Story action figures.
The whole posse has been assembled. You get Ralphie with his Red Ryder BB Gun and a bar of Life Boy soap for those foulmouthed occasions. There’s also Flick with the frozen flag pole. He has been perfectly posed to whine and flail, with his tongue frozen to the pole. And don’t forget Mom. She sports a rather fetching Fifties' frock with a snow-dressed PVC of helpless Randy as her accessory. But the Grand Poobah of the whole set has to be the Old Man. His face has been perfectly captured from the great Darren McGavin, and the facial expression they picked is wonderful. You can tell this guy just spent ten hours at work as he stares you down and doesn’t want to deal with any stupid kiddie crap. Just give him his funnies and a bottle of scotch, and take all your damn problems to your mother. That’s what she's there for damnit! Oh, yes,.. it perfectly captures the holiday magic.
As great as the figure is, it is the accessory that makes the whole set sparkle,.. the Old Man’s major award: the leg lamp. Wow, is it spectacular! It is sculpted with very fine detail. Each little strand of fishnet is etched into the leg. The lamp shade is removable and has seedy little frillies attached that hang down off the base. It even has a little clear light bulb screwed into the socket. It is a sight to behold, and is the personification of everything pure and good about the Holidays. It caps off the whole collection nicely.
A Christmas Story has always been my favorite Christmas movie, and these new toys live up to the movie very well. I’m just so excited to be able to recreate all of my favorite moments when they show it on cable 15,679 times the last two weeks of December this year. Hopefully soon they will release a second series with the two bullies and Ralphie in the infamous bunny suit. That would wrap up the collection nicely.
I double dog dare you not to buy these toys!
