If you’ve ever heard a Depeche Mode song in your life, you have heard Martin L. Gore. Gore is the songwriter behind the electronic pioneers, and the voice on Depeche classics like "The Sweetest Perfection" (Violator) and "Somebody" (Some Great Reward).
Following the release of his second solo album, Counterfeit2 (a covers album), Gore embarked on a short tour which is captured on Loverman EP2: a CD of remixes and a DVD of five songs captured live in Milan. It will make you wonder why Gore even stays in Depeche Mode.
He tweaks and arranges the covers into his own sonic world, and makes them his own. Songs from Bowie, Lou Reed, Nick Cave, and John Lennon find another life in the Depeche Mode sound of Martin Gore. The live performance footage sounds great, and captures a great performance of the material. If you're not already familiar with the material from the full-length Counterfeit2, I recommend Loverman EP2 as a companion. If you’re already familiar with the material, I don’t know why you’re even finishing this review-- go check it out.
