Eighteen songs. Nine bands. Eenie Meenie Records. To give each band a mention, structure is in order:
1. HIGH WATER MARKS - Oh, me likey. Lil' alt-rock-pop-whatever with a sweet sounding, high-pitched female vocalist. Oop... there's her sensitive male friend singing along. Dig.
2. IRVING - Techno-ey start gives way to poppy drums and guitar. Nice. Wait! Are they British? One of 'em might be. I detect an accent. Well, I like their sound, so I won't hold that against them.
3. FROM BUBBLEGUM TO SKY - See my review of their album, then come back.
4. GRAVITY AND HENRY - Ummm... heartfelt. Earnest. They sound better to me on the more up-tempo track with a good beat and jangly guitar.
5. BLUE-EYED SON - Who the hell do they remind me of? Hmmm... acoustic guitar... kinda whispery male vocals... ah-ha! Teeny Elliot Smith vibe, with less angst. Fine.
6. PINE*AM - I love asterisks in band names. Hold it! We got ourselves lil' dancey numbers! Well, well, well... three Japanese ladies. That explains it. I'll be damned-- this is a good time!
7. SEKSU ROBA - Holy shit. Sounds like I'm still at the dance club. Hey! Ho! Check my moves! I call this one the "Debbie Ass Master"! Yeah! You got it! Oop! Oop!
8. DJ ME DJ YOU - Hey, me D.J.! You D.J.? Is the beginning of this CD poppy rock and the end clubbin' time? Gah, I like their name, but... uh... next!
9. THE FARAWAY PLACES - Christ. Airy, poppy guitar with soft rapping. Was that a trumpet? Well, one of their songs is ass, the other... just okay.
So, Eenie Meenie has a pretty fun collection here. High Water Marks and PINE*am are my faves, and each seems to represent one of Eenie Meenie's two general flavors on display here. Swell.
