Man, I got me some more fun and funky tunes! Tha Fruitbat\'s self-titled album on Lunaticworks Records kicks my ass. And I love him for it.
Synthesized tones and sampled bass lines mesh together to give my ears a little audio dessert. And, mmm... it\'s yummy! Yeah, most of it could be described as jungle or drum \'n\' bass, but there are other things at work here, like the random samples of organic instruments and voices.
It\'s bass-heavy like Plastikman, dark and evil like Aphex Twin, and as dancey as Josh Wink. In all, a good mix.
\"Journey Through The Body Of Tha Beast\" is fast and sharp, diving into your chest cavity with its thick, rich bass line. \"Zanuba\" is easily my favorite track, and it has a few sampling hints of The Crystal Method. And \"Space Case\" is a dark, tripped out synth masterpiece; kind of like if Thomas Dolby\'s second cousin and Richie Hawtin had a child out of wedlock. Or something like that. It also features a weird, airy sample of someone or something at the end of the track that I\'m convinced is the ghost of Satan talking. Nice.
So, if you\'re into dark electronic tunes, you could do much worse than Tha Fruitbat. But if electronic music isn\'t your bag, I wouldn\'t pick it up. I mean, you can still pick it up, but you probably won’t like it, because you obviously suck.
