\"So, Vinnie,\" you say. \"Why in the world would a handsome Milwaukee dude such as yourself give two shits about a TV show based in and focused on New York?\"
First of all, it’s not your place to ask questions. My friend Shelly Paul says I’m a bohemian. I do what I please, rules and reason be damned. Secondly, Fearless Music, if given the chance, could be a healthy competitor for MTV and its sister networks.
So, what is Fearless Music? Well, if you live in New York, it’s a reason to steal cable. Birthed by producers Jamie Lamm and Monica Castellanos, Fearless Music invites bands from NYC’s Five Boroughs into the studio, and broadcasts them live to New York’s 1.2 million legal cable subscribers. Factor in those tech-savvy citizens who steal their cable, and you can pad that number to a healthy two-million, at least.
With one season under their broadcasting belts (and another kicking off July 19th), Fearless Music has showcased a ton of up-and-coming bands, including acts like Ambulance LTD, Billionaire Boys Club, The French Kicks, Hurry-Up Offense, Scout, The Twenty-Twos, and World/Inferno Friendship Society. Each band comes in, sets up, kicks out the jams, and winds up with way more exposure than the club scene could ever give them.
When MTV popped out of the cable access womb back in the early-Eighties, it was a good thing, exposing the world to millions of bands we might never have heard of otherwise. Unfortunately, MTV and its sister network, M2, have mutated into video-less jokes. Maybe that’s fortunate, though, for Lamm and Castellanos. What they’re doing is a good thing. And with a little more exposure, they could expand their reach beyond the Five Boroughs, and their variety beyond the local rock scene.
