I don’t know how to describe music at all. I can tell you whether I like something or not, and I could probably tell you under which of the widest possible categories of music you would find it at your local record store, but I draw a complete blank when it comes to getting specific.
I read some of the other CD reviews here at TLC, where Vinnie or somebody says something like, \"...they’ve got the style of [some band I’ve never heard of] combined with the production quality of [some other obscure reference],\" and I realize that I don’t know shit about music. I probably shouldn’t be reviewing CDs.
Lucky for me, I got a pretty easy one this time, one that even I can do. The Marlboro Chorus sounds like Beck. Not the weird, trippy stuff that Beck is best known for, but the tracks on his CDs that don’t get played on the radio: the more mellow, subdued songs. I wish this disc was longer than just 15 minutes, so that I had more time before I had to get up and change discs, but the bottom line is this: I like it.
