From the press release: \"The first track on the band’s new SideOneDummy Records Leaving The Ways EP is a soccer hooligan chant, an echo of the late-\'70s oi punk bands like Sham 69, Cock Sparrer, and Toy Dolls....\"
\"Soccer hooligans\"? Okay, I’m sold. Welcome to my stereo, Briggs. And make yourself at home. You’re gonna be there a lot.
Leaving The Ways has everything I like about punk rock-- including a Cock Sparrer comparison. There’s something really infectious about that sound, and The Briggs have resurrected the spirit of it with a thick, modern ferocity.
\"One Shot Down\", the aforementioned first track, is your initiation to the Briggs Family Choir of Brothers-at-Arms. Yes, it’s catchy. All the tunes are. But it’s those backing vocals that’ll get you-- hook, line, and sinker. Especially on \"Waiting In The Shadows\" and \"Song For Us\". They make you feel like you’re a part of this big, beautiful family of social outcasts simply by listening. And that’s what punk rock is supposed to be about, right?
Leaving The Ways\' biggest fault is that it’s only an EP. By the time I get done telling you my favorite tracks, I’ll have covered every single one. Guess that’s not such a bad thing.
