Think that 5.1 stereo surround is just for watching your movies really loud? Well, two recent DVD-audio releases have taken advantage of the amazing experience of hearing music in this format.
Frank Zappa - QuAUDIOPHILIAc
As if there was ever a doubt to the genius of Frank Zappa, DTS Entertainment has just released a multi-channel surround DVD-audio disc of Frank’s experiments with surround sound before it even existed in the Seventies. QuAUDIOPHILIAc is a collection of unreleased performances remixed in the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen from the Sheik Yerbouti and Orchestral Favorites time frame. Lovingly produced by Dweezil Zappa, it includes onscreen notes. With QuAUDIOPHILIAc, we get to hear what happens when technology finally catches up to genius.
Tweaker - 2 a.m. wakeup call
How do you make a great album even better? Mix it into a full 5.1 stereo surround and add some bonus tracks. Studio genius Chris Vrenna, a.k.a. Tweaker, remixes his brilliant 2 a.m. wakeup call to completely immerse you in the sounds of this great album. For all you tech heads, Vrenna takes you on a tour of his home studio to show off all the toys you probably can’t afford. So get out there and buy this puppy.
