PSYCHO SCENARIO

Hope you kids like metal. Heavy, loud, white-hot-steel-pole-up-your-ass metal. Mean-ass-growl-makin’-children-cry-lead-vocals kind of metal. ‘Cause that’s what you get when you put Psycho Scenario in your stereo. Psycho Scenario is a five man metal militia with a knack for playing it thick and heavy. Imagine the tally-ho forward speed of earliest Metallica, with a pinch of the ghoulish Misfits/Iron Maiden charm, but angrier. Heavy enough to kick the snot out of faux-metal fruitboots like Orgy, and almost possessing the cool, careless abandon of Lemmy Kilmster and his Motorheads. Almost, I say, because Lemmy is pretty fuckin’ cool. The Psycho Scenario sampler we got contained five tracks from their forthcoming EP, Psycho Babble. The first track, “Fighting Fearless Fear”, is an excellent kickoff for what follows-- fast, loud, and slightly indecipherable. But that’s no big deal. I can never understand what most singers are singing. The next song is the big winner in my book: “15 Second Song”. It is just that-- a song so short and fast it could give Satan whiplash. Short songs do it for me every time. The band (Tim, Marty, Jeff, Jeremy and Joe) does a good job staying true to their genre. Riffs thicker than molasses, guitar solos faster than your first time, and even a frightening Silence of the Lambs sample. There’s nothing gentle about their sound. So if you’re a big pussy looking for some feel-good tunes to pick flowers to, get lost.
