CHRISTMAS WITH THE MIGHTY BLUE KINGS

Not since Dean Martin’s Making Spirits Bright has there been a Christmas album as cool and classy as the Mighty Blue Kings’ The Christmas Album. The Chicago jump/swing ensemble belt out eleven traditional and original holiday tunes. The best of the batch: A sexy reworking of William Bell and Sweet Inspiration’s “Everyday Will Be Like A Holiday”; a suave, soulful run-through of “White Christmas”; and the band’s own “Just To Be With You”-- a song so gentle and sincere in its pledge, you almost feel like you’re standing outside on a late winter night, snuggling with your sweetheart, snowflakes falling all around. The Kings bring their trademark musical chivalry to a seasonal soundtrack, but do it well enough to listen to year-round.
