This upcoming release by Texas natives El Gato will be an ear-pleasing addition for any fan of contemporary, sensitive-rocker-type music. Let me put it to you this way: if you liked the last record from the Get Up Kids, then this album will fit perfectly in your collection. We're Birds has got everything that you'd expect from a decent emo band. This record has all those witty lyrics that, at first, seem like free prose, but leave an aftertaste of missing old girlfriends. You also get the Casio keyboard-sounding piano and organ that lead into strumming guitar riffs. And no self-respecting emo band, including El Gato, would have a CD without extra special neato designs on the cover. This album has everything you need to keep convincing your friends that you're the most sensitive rocker this side of Oasis. In all seriousness, We're Birds is a good album that's easy to listen to. What it lacks in originality, it makes up for with its consistency. When I listened to this record through for the second time, I was reminded of that Dashboard Confessional album I reviewed a few issues back. I hated that record, but now I hear it all over the radio. So I'd suggest that all you kids run out and pick up a copy of El Gato's We're Birds. That way you can stay ahead of the game and be damn cool, because you can say you listened to this band before they were cool.
And tell 'em the Prophet sent ya.
