DIVISION OF LAURA LEE: BLACK CITY

Remember the Sonic Youth album Dirty? You liked it, didn't you? Yeah, it was nasty-nice, and sounded so good that it made you feel like going straight outside and doing a Slappy Grind on the nearest parking block. That album was both gritty and smooth, the way a cheap stripper looks in the black light of a dingy full-nude bar. And you enthusiastically fork over your $20 for a few minutes alone with her in a "private" booth. You rub one out on her back and then walk outside feeling dirty and triumphant at the same time, but as soon as you realize what you just paid for, you feel like a chump. Then, you smile and write the whole thing off as a learning experience. You can feel that way again with this here release by the band known as Division of Laura Lee. Their album, Black City, takes you back to the sweet old days. You're 17 again and your small town is your kingdom. You and the crew slide around in your beat down Oldsmobile, trying to decide what scrumptious little white trash girl will be the next to wipe the crusties out of your morning-after eyes. The Olds rounds the next corner as the tape deck crackles out the track "Trapped In". Everything kicks into slow motion and you grin that smile that lets everyone know just how on the prowl you really are. Yeah, you're the smoothest shit since mom brought home that first family-sized jug of creamy Jif, and you got the attitude, the car, the bitches, and the tunes to prove it.
Yeah, I don't know what that was all about. This album kicks ass the way Sonic Youth used to. It's a definite must for any rocked-out self-loather. Get online somewhere and download a song or two, and then take your lazy ass outside and throw down a few bucks to get the whole album.
