I've been a fan of Steve Oedekerk for years; he wrote the Ace Ventura movies, and directed Patch Adams and Nothing To Lose. His most resent work was on his website, www.ochannel.com, where he created the thumb series, which included Thumb Wars, and The Blair Thumb. His latest opus, Kung Pow: Enter the Fist, had me just a little worried, to say the least. At first it looked to be a cheap kung-fu spoof. Man, was I wrong! At no point did I not laugh during this movie. Kung Pow is basically Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid meets Mystery Science Theater 3000. Oedekerk took two kung-fu movies from 1976 and, with blue screens, voice-overs, and some creative editing, made one hell of a funny movie. Because it's a kung-fu movie, Oedekerk was able to be very creative with the voice-overs, and take the story line in any direction he desired. To just give you a taste of the humor in the film, the main villain is called Master Pain, at first, but later decides he would like to be known as Betty. There is also a ninja that was incorrectly trained on purpose, because no one liked him very much. That's just two of the gems you'll find in this hysterical film. I'm not saying this is the best film of the year, but I did enjoy the hour and a half I spent laughing. Anyone that loves tastes like chicken will love this movie.
